BIBLE GACHA
Mission and Mission Statement
The mission of Bible Gacha is to help people develop regular habits in reading their Bible and praying, while also making such activities a little more fun. The intent is to not make people reliant on the app/game to spend time with God, but to get the ball rolling on cementing a regular habit into the believer’s life that will continue even if they stop using the app.
Values:
-
The primary goal of this game is to draw people closer to Christ. That is the whole point. Though we fiercely believe that fun and creativity can be forms of worship, this project is also serious in the sense that it could really help people.
-
This game is NOT FOR MAKING MONEY. We do not expect this game to ever make a profit. There will be no microtransactions, ads, or sponsors. Any money made through donations/support/etc will go directly into funding the game and the studio. As of right now, all team members are providing volunteer work only, including those in leadership. Absolutely no one in the company is currently financially benefitting from any donations or support.
-
There will be absolutely no generative AI used in this project or company, not in the writing, art, or game development.
Goals for the Game and for the Team
-
The first release of Bible Gacha by the end of 2026.
Goals for the Game and its Future:
-
Continuous updates: every month or few months, new characters/banners/content is released. Most would be smaller updates, just like events or new banners, but there would also be larger updates adding new game mechanics etc.
-
Charities and organisation collabs: It’d be awesome to have events celebrating Christian charities and organisations where characters, outfits, and plans/tasks are released on theme.
Goals for the Dev Team
-
We really hope this project becomes not just a team of people working together, but also a community. Our dream is to build a group of friends, uplifting each other, ministering to each other, and pursuing God side by side.
-
One of our major goals is to shine a spotlight on individual team members. We have a lot of beginner voice actors, artists, writers, coders, other creatives working on the project, and our goal is to help put them on the map metaphorically and get their careers started. We plan to credit each person for anything they contribute to the project as much as we possibly can.
Game Concept
A Christian Gacha game where practicing habits of reading the Bible and praying are rewarded by in-game currency you can then use to pull Bible characters and heroes of the faith from the gacha system.
Tasks are the “check boxes” you click to receive points in the game.
Types of tasks could include: reading an amount of scripture; reading a specific scripture; praying; guided prayer; journaling prompts; reading a devotional; living out something (ex. A challenge to share the gospel with one nonbeliever that week)
Tasks
Daily Tasks - The basic tasks everyone has are Daily Prayer and Daily Time in the Word. These are ones you can complete every day for a fixed reward in currency (and can only be completed once a day).
Free Tasks - Shows current free tasks available to the user based on total unlocked amount character, relics, art cards, & current banner event
Devotional Tasks - Tasks unlocked and available upon collecting characters in game.
Gacha System
We want the gacha system to be challenging enough that people don’t get everything they pull for immediately, thus they actually want to keep on completing tasks to get the characters they want.
There will be more than just characters as rewards from the gacha system; there will also be artifacts, character skins, and verse cards.
Artifacts - Collectable items that will each be related to the characters in the game and will have quick devotional material available in their descriptions.
Character Skins - During events in the game, extra content will be released for already-existing characters, including skins that players can apply to the appearances of the characters.
Verse Cards - Collectable post-card style items featuring a Bible verse and a piece of art related to it.
Characters
There are two types of characters you can pull in the gacha: Bible Figures and Heroes of the Faith.
Once you pull a character in the gacha, you have access to a devotional plan and tasks led by them and related to their own stories.
Bible Figures - Biblical figures, like Jesus, the disciples, Moses, etc. We hope to eventually have any person mentioned in the Bible (besides the genealogies) to be in the game. We also want to include the "bad guys" like Judas in the game, but their tasks/plans will not be ‘led’ by them, but instead examining their life and what purpose they serve to the greater story of the Gospel from an outside perspective.
Heroes of the Faith - Saints, martyrs, famous Christian leaders. Their plans and tasks will be directly taken from their teachings/writings if possible, but also looking into their lives and what faith looked like for them during the time they were alive.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will there be a story of any kind to the game?
Not in the initial release or base game, but we are considering adding some sort of story to the game in later updates, as that is most likely the best way for the game to grow.
What platform were you imagining this for? A mobile app, or desktop? Or perhaps both?
We're planning to eventually have the game available on PC, but for now we are just focusing on mobile.
So what would we do with the characters we collect?
The content of the game - devotionals, Bible-reading plans, events, etc - is all driven by the characters. The more you unlock through the gacha, the more content you have available to read and work through.
Is this for any specific denomination of the church?
The leadership of Thorncrown and Bible Gacha is mostly protestant from several different denominations. However, we want this project to be as neutral as possible. While we will never endorse apostolic-specific beliefs, we will not disparage them either. Our focus is entirely on the Bible, what it says, and sharing it with others to the best of our abilities.
